Don’t be left in the COLD

It may seem too early to talk about the festive season but it’s the perfect time to book a Christmas show, party or even a winter break ...

IF you’ve already started to warn your kids about the perils of getting on Santa’s naughty list in a desperate attempt to get them to behave, then you will know that the festive season is fast approaching. And if you are planning on booking a party night or getting away for either Christmas or Hogmanay, it is important that you don’t leave it too late when considering your options, as many establishments, restaurants and hotels are already publicising their Christmas and Hogmanay packages. If you don’t want to get left at home with the all the cook-

ing, cleaning, washing up and general mayhem that comes with the season, then now is the time to be doing something about it. January is traditionally a time to refresh and recharge after the festive fun and frolics is over and done with for yet another year. It’s a time to give your waistline (and perhaps your liver) a break from the mince pies, mulled wine and milk chocolate goodies that can often make up the typical Christmas diet of your average Scot. A great way to relax and iron out the knots from the hectic party season is by taking a spa break. If you are fortunate enough to have someone treat you, great deals on such breaks make great Christmas gifts. But if you can’t wait until January, then why not take the stress out of Christmas by snapping up a festive spa break package? Or if relaxation doesn’t appeal, Scotland’s cities offer a huge variety of getaway options, with sparkling illuminations, pantomimes, ice skating and festive markets. Scotland’s cities truly are places where the magic of Christmas is brought to life. A city-break in Scotland around the festive season provides the chance to shop, eat, drink and be merry to your heart’s content, and despite their popularity, a visit to either Glasgow or Edinburgh at this time of year offers surprisingly good value for money. In Glasgow itself, George Square is the centre of the festivities, with the annual Christmas illuminations continually impressive. You can also shop around the local food and drink shops that are prevalent in the area, and for children there are plenty of rides and activities.
