Him to show a little humility with his celebrations

stretch it really quickly over the top and other concepts you need in the game. He is someone I always love to have in and around. When he’s fit and scoring goals and working hard for the team then he’s a really, really valuable asset for us and for Scotland.

“He’s absolutely fine. You just have to remind players now and again but it was nothing serious. But, like I say, we have a really good relationship, there is always a bit of tough love in there from time to time.”

Rodgers, meanwhile, has shrugged off the drama surrounding the Betfred League cup dates with Celtic scheduled to play at Hampden on the evening of the 28th October at 7.45pm, hours after Aberdeen and Rangers will fight out the first semi-final.

“I don’t overthink it, to be honest,” said Rodgers. “You only assume it was something that was anticipated because everyone knew the fixtures and what the dates could be and the games that were there. So if there has been an anticipation of what could happen you assume with the decision made so quickly that operationally and logistically this was deemed the best solution. Each club will have a gripe for different reasons of why it shouldn’t be played on the day or not, but the organisers and police must feel this is the best possibility for the games.

“In the modern game it is definitely TV that rules the roost, no doubt about it. You can be on an international break and come back and play on a Friday night and there’s not a lot you can do about it. TV pays the money to the organisations and you have to run with it.”
