Jackson is exactly what Saints need right now, insists Kearney

-

ST Mirren have rewarded frontman Simeon Jackson with a short-term deal after the Canada international impressed on trial.

The 31-year-old has spent the last week with the Buddies and showed what he can offer Oran Kearney’s team by netting a hat-trick against Dundee United in a closed-door bounce game.

Now he has been given the chance to win a longer stay after joining Saints on an initial agreement stretching until January, with the option to extend until the end of the season written into the contract.

The former Gillingham, Norwich, Eintracht Braunscwheig, Millwall, Coventry, Barnsley, Blackburn and Walsall striker told his new club’s website: “I’m delighted to be here and can’t wait to get going.

“The lads have welcomed me in really well. It’s happened really quick but it’s been good.

“The manager was a great guy to meet and as soon as I met him I got a good feeling and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Kearney, who could hand Jackson his debut against Hibs today, said he is what Saints require.

Kearney said: “He fits the bill for what we are needing at this point in time.

“He’s been about the Championship in England for a long time and his pedigree goes before him.

“When he arrives in and you see the shape he’s kept himself in, it’s obvious he is a top professional.

“He’ll be well liked around the place and he’ll be a good influence on everybody around the club.”
