Hofmann relishes Ibrox challenge

-

RAPID VIENNA’S Liverpool-mad defender Max Hofmann admits he will be in awe of both Steven Gerrard and the Ibrox atmosphere.

But he’s warned Rangers not to underestimate the struggling Austrians, despite their dismal league form that saw them axe manager Goran Djuricin after their latest weekend loss.

Rapid are in turmoil ahead of their trip to Glasgow, but have reserved their best performances for Europe and have three points after a win against Spartak Moscow in the opening game.

And stopper Hofmann has backed his teammates to get over the disappointment of losing their manager and their woeful domestic form — once he settles down after meeting Gerrard.

Hofmann (pictured) said: “He is a big hero of mine. I’m very excited at the prospect of seeing him on the touchline.

“We had the perfect beginning to this group. Spartak was a good opponent, but I expect Rangers to be tougher in their own stadium.”

And 25-year-old Hofmann admits he’s been hugely impressed with RangersHe said: “Rangers have come through the rounds of the competition without losing a single game, which is very tough to do over eight matches.

“We know going to Rangers in the famous Ibrox Stadium, with this amazing crowd, it will be very tough for us, a demanding night.”

And Hofmann has already pinpointed who he believes to be Rangers’ danger man. He said: “I know Kyle Lafferty, who is a powerful striker — strong and physical.

“But we will go to Scotland in a confident place.”
