Primary school pupils spotted thug with weapon outside playground
PRIMARY pupils witnessed a thug brandishing a weapon outside their playground - a week prior to a prowler breaching security at the school.
It has emerged that city cops have been called out to Holy Cross Primary School in Govanhill twice in the space of a week.
Police Scotland confirmed the latest incident yesterday.
The force said officers were called to a disturbance outside the school on Calder Street on Wednesday, September 26.
The latest incident comes after we reported how a prowler managed to steal money while pupils were still in class last Thursday.
The sneak-in thief breached security at the school to walk around the premises for some time before he made off with cash.
The incident alarmed parents who were told in a letter on Friday that security at the school was of a ‘high priority’.
A parent, who did not want to be named, told The Evening Times: “When we got the letter, I was completely shocked as it is the second time police have been at the school.
“I know the kids saw someone outside the playground with a weapon and were terrified.
“It was some sort of argument and they were able to see everything through a fence.”
The Evening Times understands that a youth had a pen knife outside the school prompting the call to police.
It is also understood, however, that cops are following a positive line of inquiry with this investigation.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “It was around 2.20pm on Wednesday, September 26, police were called to a report of a disturbance outside a school on Calder Street, Glasgow. “Inquires are ongoing.” A spokeswoman for Glasgow City Council added: “We are aware of an alleged incident on Calder Street, outwith school premises.
“The matter is now in the hands of Police Scotland.”
