Speedway superstar Harris targets two titles with Tigers and Poole
THE most talked-about man in British speedway says he’ll be happy to hog the headlines again this week – because it will mean he’s taken a step closer to a unique league title double.
Chris Harris will captain Glasgow Tigers in their Championship play-off semi-final against Workington this weekend.
Before then he leads Premiership side Poole Pirates into the second leg of their play-off final tomorrow night.
If successful he’ll be on track for winning both league titles in the same season for the first time.
Bomber was the talk of domestic speedway last week when his lastbend pass on then-reigning world champion Jason Doyle booked Poole’s final place in one of the sport’s greatest TV moments.
Now he wants to continue that for both the Pirates and the Tigers having helped to turn around the form of both clubs.
He said: “It’s always nice to have a good meeting and get talked about – normally I’m getting moaned about for not being good enough! So it’s nice to be popular for a good reason for a change.
“It was a good night down there at Poole last week and a good last ride, but it counts for nothing now. We have to start again with both teams.
“This is probably my first time doing both leagues and being in the play-offs.
“Both clubs started the season off pretty badly – at Glasgow we didn’t start off great but the team managed to fight back and we made a few changes – and I didn’t start the season at Poole but they brought me in and things got better.
“The Glasgow boys have worked together to get to this position so we don’t want to let all the hard work over the season go to waste now and not make the final.
“We’ve just got to make sure we win our home leg by a good margin and there’s no reason we can’t go to Workington and win as well.”
