Miller time for Light Blues in mauling of St Mirren

-

IT has been 18 years since Kenny Miller first signed for Rangers from Hibernian in a £2 million transfer.

The veteran striker has racked up an ecclectic CV ever since, including two further stints with the Ibrox club, switching to bitter rivals Celtic in 2006 before spells with Turkish side Bursarspor, Cardiff, MLS outfit Vancouver Whitecaps and more recently his ill-fated player/manager role with Livingston before joining Dundee this season at the age of 38.

His first spell at Ibrox may have only lasted 18 months, but the young striker managed 11 goals in 38 appearances for the Light Blues before making a loan move to Wolves permanent for a £3m fee in December 2001. Five of those strikes, however, came in a single match.

Gordy (Bridgeton) asks: Can you provide details of my boy’s first visit to Ibrox to see Rangers v St Mirren on November 4, 2000?

A: The game you are talking about saw Rangers run riot over St Mirren winning 7-1. A young Kenny Miller in his first spell with the club scored five goals, with GET the lowdown on Scottish football’s fascinating history with a visit to the National Stadium. There’s fun among all the exhibits for every family member. Mon-Sat 10am-5pm, Sunday 11am-5pm. Adults £6, U16/concs £3, U5 free. Tel: 0141 616 6139 or visit www. scottishfootball museum.org.uk four of them coming in the first half an hour of the game. He got his fifth in the second half. Billy Dodds and Neil McCann also got on the scoresheet for Rangers with St Mirren’s solitary reply coming through Ricky Gillies.

Rangers Christensen, Ricksen, Wilson, Amoruso, Numan, De Boer, Ferguson, Tugay, Albertz, Mols, Miller. Substitutes Brown, Konterman, Dodds, McCann, Gibson. Daz (Clarkston), asks: I saw that Inverness Caley Thistle after a 2-2 draw with Dunfermline have now drawn six games in a row in the league, is this run a record?

A: Although an incredible run of draws for Inverness Caley Thistle, it’s not quite a record. St Johnstone hold the record for most consecutive league draws in Scottish football with seven during the 1992/93 season. Starting on March 27 with a 1-1 draw with Airdrieonians, the run of stalemates ended on the May 15 when they beat Hearts 3-1. During that period they had four 1-1 draws, two 2-2 draws and a 0-0. Inverness have, however, equalled the Scottish secondtier record of six games in a row, a record they share with Dunfermline from 1975/76, Morton 1990/91, themselves in the 2000/01 season and their rivals Ross County 2005/06.
