Killie earned their keep, says boss Clarke

-

STEVE CLARKE reckons Kilmarnock more than merited their share of the spoils as they held Rangers at Ibrox.

The Light Blues took a ninth-minute lead through Alfredo Morelos but couldn’t make the most of their advantage.

Greg Stewart pulled Killie level as he curled a terrific effort beyond keeper Wes Foderingham just six minutes later.

And the striker could have won it at the death as Foderingham denied him in stoppage time.

There were plenty of positives for the visitors, though, as they continued their impressive run of Premiership form this term. Clarke said: “I thought it was a good game between two good teams.

“Both goals could go down as a little bit fortunate. They scored with their first shot which was a deflection, and we scored with our first shot that was a lucky ricochet in the box and he stuck it in the top corner.

“After that, I thought it was a good competitive game. I believe we’re the first team in the league to come here and stop Rangers getting all three points, so we can be pleased with that.

“But, we’re also a little disappointed because we had opportunities, especially in the second half when the game opened up a little bit.

“With a little more care and attention, we might have had all three points.

“It was the first time in a year that I’ve seen five minutes go on the board, so I was surprised, yeah.

“Mind you, we could have scored because Greg Stewart got away at the start of injury time and with a bit of luck we might have nicked a goal.

“It was a chance, but obviously Rangers put a few balls in the box too and we had to defend well and show the character we’ve got.”
