Gers left to count cost of Caixinha

-

THE latest financial figures that were released just before kick-off on Wednesday and that deal with the 12 months up until June 30, 2018.

That, of course, is the Pedro Caixinha era and you can see just how costly his tenure was in terms of bringing him in, backing him and getting rid of him.

The loss of £14.3million can’t all be attributed to what happened on the park and you have to look at the money that has been spent around Ibrox and the Hummel Training Centre as well as every area of the club is brought back up to standard following years of neglect.

The fans will always focus on what happens with the team, though. Every appointment is a gamble. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.

Caixinha’s just didn’t and there were too many of the players he brought in who just weren’t good enough.

When you overhaul the squad in the manner he did, and then suffer the results he did in Europe and domestically, of course that is going to have an impact on the balance sheet.

You have to give credit to Dave King and his board and his fellow investors for backing their manager but if you don’t get the right people into the club then you won’t see the right return. Rangers have suffered as a result.

The board and their backers have come in again this summer and supported Steven Gerrard and there is no doubt that the players we brought in ahead of the new season are better than those who left.
