Views wanted in bid to help improve busy city junction

- BY NIALL CHRISTIE

FUNDING to improve Battlefield’s roads is being put in the hands of the community after a successful application.

Locals are being asked to give their opinion on the state of the Battlefield intersection, an increasingly busy junction in a congested area of the city.

Officials are looking to use money received as part of the Sustrans Street Design Programme, and funded by Scottish Government, to help shape proposals for improvements to the area’s streets.

Glasgow City Council carried out public consultation late last year, focussing on the area around the Battlefield Rest junction.

Suggestions at the time included increasing safety for pedestrians and cyclists, constructing coherent links across the area and creating more civic space.

This new project aims to build on those aspects but take into account the wider area and involve the community fully in the creation of an outline design.

As part of this, a design process will now be carried out until June next year, with drop in sessions being held at Langside Church next

Rowena Colpitts, senior engineer at Sustrans, said: “We are delighted to be working with Glasgow City Council and the community around Battlefield to make improvements to the Battlefield Rest junction and surrounding area.

“Whether you live, work or travel through Battlefield, we need your input to ensure the design proposals work for the whole community, so please come along and tell us what improvements should be made to your local area.”

A supplementary cycling workshop will take place alongside this to garner the views of bicycle users in the area and help tailor any future developments to their needs.

Further engagement events will be taking place in the New Year to develop ideas and suggestions.
