Robbo insists Well will get no extra time off
MOTHERWELL manager Stephen Robinson has apologised to the supporters for Sunday’s 7-1 thrashing at Rangers and insists there will be no time off for the players during the international break.
The Fir Park outfit were humbled at Ibrox after having Carl McHugh sent off for a second bookable offence in the 34th minute when the score was 1-1.
However, Robinson is refusing to use McHugh’s dismissal as an excuse and insists his players will work flat this week even though they are not back in Premiership action until November 24.
Robinson, who was also sent to the stand by referee Craig Thomson after Rangers were awarded a penalty for the hand-ball incident that led to McHugh being red-carded, said: “I think some of the boys used the referee as an excuse but let’s be frank, we were very poor defensively and we’re not going to blame the referee.
“Yes, I don’t think it should have been a first yellow card and it changes the aspect of the game but after that I felt really let down and I can only apologise to the fans.
“We didn’t do then basics well enough here is a manner to lose games and that was a really poor manner to lose a football game.
“It’s back to the drawing board and we’ll be in all week – and the levels will have to be raised if they we want to take something from the Aberdeen game.”
Robinson, whose side had won back-to-back matches against Dundee and St Mirren to ease their relegation concerns, added: “I’ve protected a lot of these players but I didn’t get a lot back on Sunday.”
