Macca calls on Dee to turn the tide on season

-

JIM McIntyre has urged his struggling Dundee side not to feel sorry for themselves – because he is convinced they can spark a turnaround in fortunes.

The Dark Blues showed more fight than in previous weeks when they overcame the loss of a controversial penalty to earn a 1-1 draw with relegation rivals St Mirren at the weekend.

The point, their first for six games, kept the Dens Park men in bottom spot in the Premiership standings after just one victory in 13 league outings.

But McIntyre, who experienced his first goal and point since taking over as Dundee manager from Neil McCann, was impressed with the way his team roared back in determined fashion after going a goal behind.

He said: “The big thing I’m trying to encourage is you don’t feel sorry for yourself, because nobody else is going to give you a helping hand.

“We’ve got to do it ourselves, and we’re all in it together. So, we’re encouraging the players to keep getting into areas, and even if the quality lets you down on one occasion just keep doing the same things, keep getting in there.

“Because I feel we have the quality to turn it.”

Meanwhile, former Dens Park favourite Martin Boyle insists he is ready to represent Australia “with pride” after the Hibs forward joined the Socceroos squad for Saturday’s friendly against South Korea.

He said: “I’m delighted to have been called up for the squad for the game against South Korea. My target is to just make a good, positive impression on the manager and the supporters and represent the country with pride.”
