Menga offered two-game ban for headbutt

-

LIVINGSTON striker Dolly Menga has been offered a two-game ban after allegedly aiming a headbutt at Celtic forward Ryan Christie.

The Angolan (above) was caught on camera motioning his head into the face of the Hoops ace during Sunday’s 0-0 Ladbrokes Premiership draw at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

The incident was missed by referee Keven Clancy but Menga has now been handed a fast track notice of complaint from Scottish Football Association compliance officer Clare Whyte.

If the 25-year-old accepts the violent conduct charge, Menga will miss Livi’s next two games versus Rangers – against whom he netted the winning goal earlier in the season – and Motherwell.

A hearing has been set for Thursday.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers said after the game: “He should have been sent off. I thought so in real time.

“I thought he gestured his head towards Ryan and when I saw it after the game it was actually more aggressive than I thought and he was very, very lucky to stay on the pitch.

“Was Ryan too honest? I’m not sure.

“If he goes down it doesn’t matter if the referee hasn’t seen it. I assume he hasn’t seen it so if he goes down or not it doesn’t matter.

“It wasn’t a great action by the player so you can only assume all the officials haven’t seen it.”

Livi boss Gary Holt claimed he’d missed the incident.

He said: “I wasn’t aware of it. I’ll need to have a look at the video.

“No-one else has mentioned it – not our staff or our players.

“These things happen in a game of football – it’s probably nothing but it gets highlighted over and over on camera.”
