Russell proud as Clan show their resilience

-

GLASGOW Clan head coach Pete Russell was full of praise for his side after they rounded off a tough week in style with a convincing 6-3 home win against Milton Keynes Lightning.

Clan began a hectic seven days with a big double-header win over Coventry Blaze before suffering a heavy 6-1 defeat away to Lightning midweek and an overtime loss against Sheffield Steelers on Friday.

But they dug in and battled back well in front of the Purple Army on Saturday to walk away with seven points from their last five matches with a morale-boosting win against Lightning.

Matt Beca’s two goals and three assists made it a great night for Clan after the heartache of an overtime loss to Sheffield Steelers the night before.

And a relieved Russell said: “It’s all about points and we’ve got seven out of 10 over the last week which can’t be sniffed at in this league. I’m happy with that. I think we played reasonably well to be honest for a team that’s played five matches in seven days. The guys need a good rest now.

“We need to stay positive, I’m not really a negative person so I want to stick to the positives, keep moving forward and try fix some of the small things.

“We’ll have a light skate but this week is just about preparing for Guildford now. We’re looking forward to it.”

Clan welcome Guildford Flame this Saturday. Face-off at Braehead is 7pm.

Meanwhile, Clan forward Mac Howlett has been selected to represent Great Britain as part of the U20s squad at January’s IIHF World Championship Division II Group A in Tallinn, Estonia.
