South Side eatery celebrates opening

-

A GLASGOW restaurateur is celebrating eight weeks of success after opening his third eatery in the city.

Niven’s by Café Source opened in mid-September on Nithsdale Road in the South Side to rave reviews.

The Strathbungo venue comes from the same team behind cafés at St Andrew’s in the Square and Hughenden Road in the West End.

After a rave review from Joanna Blythman at our sister title The Herald on Sunday this past weekend, co-owners Paul Laurie and Kenny Donachie described how “it was such amazing news to wake up to”.

The pair added: “A massive thank you to Joanna and, of course, to all of our customers over our first eight weeks on Nithsdale Road.

“A huge thank you also to our hard-working team at Niven’s.”

Niven’s is not the only new restaurant to land in Glasgow in recent months as the city’s food and drink scene continues to expand.

As previously reported by the Evening Times, La Vita Spuntini Gordon Street quietly opened to the public earlier this month.

The venture is businessman Mario Arcari and his father’s fifth restaurant in the city, after La Vita Pizzeria restaurants on George Square and in Bishopbriggs, Piccolino E Vino in Newton Mearns and Spuntini Byres Road.

Located right in the centre of Glasgow’s busy shopping district, the 125-cover restaurant over two floors expects to dominate the Italian restaurant market in the City Centre.

Mario described how his Spuntini brand is already “one of the most popular spots for romantic dining and get-togethers” in Glasgow since it opened its doors on Byres Road in 2008.

He added: “The new addition to the family business on Gordon Street offers a familyfriendly environment with a big emphasis on service and quality of produce, allowing our customers a restaurant and bar experience where they can appreciate and indulge in the flavours of our most famous regions in Italy.”

Prior to this, an Americanstyle eatery opened in the West End as TriBeCa closed its doors.

Roosevelts Bar and Kitchen in Woodlands promised diners that the menu was crafted with the best local ingredients – and would “pack a punch.”

Formerly an independently run branch of the TriBeCa Group, owners – brothers Scott and Graeme McLean – aimed to combine delicious American food with the best Scottish produce, all mixed in with that friendly service Glasgow is famous for.

Jacques, from Brel bosses, opened in Finnieston this month also with an emphasis on fondue, while Californiainspired So L.A. took over a unit on Mitchell Street.

The restaurant, bar and event space – from the award-winning team behind, The Butchershop Bar & Grill, Hutchesons City Grill, and The Spanish Butcher – is inspired by the vibrancy and diversity of the West coast drinking and dining scene and is the first of its kind to land in Scotland.
