Kelly’s Ibrox return not what he hoped

-

LIAM KELLY was disappointed he couldn’t mark his return to Ibrox with a win as Livingston went down 3-0 to Rangers on Saturday.

The keeper came through the Light Blues ranks as a kid but couldn’t establish himself between the sticks and was allowed to leave by boss Steven Gerrard this summer.

After helping Livingston clinch their Premiership place via the play-offs last term, Kelly returned to the Tony Macaroni Arena and penned a two-year deal ahead of the new campaign.

He was back in familiar territory at the weekend but there was no memorable win for the 22-year-old as goals from Daniel Candeias, Alfredo Morelos and Scott Arfield clinched the victory for the Gers.

And Kelly was frustrated that Gary Holt’s side got no rewards for their efforts despite an encouraging performance at Ibrox. He said: “I got a cross after about two minutes from Tavernier and that calmed me down a bit. I enjoyed the experience.

“Once the whistle goes, you’re just concentrating on the pitch and not taking in anything around you.

“I was aware that we were on top until they scored their second. We had chances, half chances if I’m honest.

“Nothing really broke for us. I thought we were in the ascendancy but we just couldn’t get the equaliser.

“It was big [for me to play at Ibrox] but I came here to do a job and unfortunately came up short.

“It goes by so quickly. I was happy to play.

I was happy with everybody’s effort. We were just tired towards the end against really good team. ”
