Sinclair says life’s a beach again as he finds finishing touch
SCOTT SINCLAIR was the goal hero for Celtic on Thursday night and the winger will look to take that form now into Sunday’s Betfred League Cup final at Hampden tomorrow afternoon.
Sinclair is keen on adding his seventh piece of silverware to the haul he has collected with the Parkhead side and has no qualms about the relentless nature of Celtic’s schedule.
Still, though, what it does mean is that it will be this summer when the Englishman is lying on a beach before he will be able to enjoy any of the fruits of this season’s labours.
“I think we’ve become used to it and used to the fact that we need to keep winning – Thursday, Sunday and Wednesday just about every week,” he said.
“But we have the players in the squad which allow the manager to make the changes he wants to and everyone who steps in is good enough to play in that position.
“Once last season was finished I was able to go to the beach, have a rest and think: ‘That was a pretty good run.’ And we can do that again this season.”
Sinclair has rediscovered some of his own mojo of late but the 28-year-old has maintained that he knew he would get back to form in Brendan Rodgers’ side.
“Being back in the team, and the way the formation has gone back to the way it used to be, it has been perfect for myself,” he said. “It has been great to get a couple of goals, and get back into form.
“I don’t think it was much of a deal. But because I wasn’t playing as much as I had been, people could say that my form had dipped. But you can’t have form if you are not playing. Once I was back playing, I was back doing as well as I can, and I was back in the team.
“Because my standards were set so high when I first came I can tell now that everybody had expectations of me that were so high. As long as I just keep getting up there and creating.”
If Celtic are successful at Hampden it will not only be Rodgers’ seventh straight piece of silverware with the club but will also open all chat of a treble Treble.
“It would make sure we get another medal under our belts and keep moving forward from there,” said Sinclair.
“It sets up your season. It is basically the start of the season so once you get that first trophy under your belt it sets you up for the next ones.
“Of course you can’t win a treble without one. But I don’t think we are looking that far ahead.”
