Appeal after man injured in hit-and-run

-

A MAN has been left in a serious condition after being involved in a hit-and-run in south-west Glasgow.

Police Scotland said the incident in Darnley occurred at around 4.35pm on Saturday.

The man, 33, was crossing Nitshill Road at its junction with Darnley Mains Road, near Sainsbury’s, when he was hit by a darkcoloured Seat Ibiza travelling westbound on Nitshill Road.

He was carrying three bags of shopping which he had picked up for his mother.

The car failed to stop and continued westbound towards Nitshill.

Members of the public helped the injured man until emergency services arrived at the scene.

One man, who helped at the roadside, said: “He was crossing the road, and it looked like someone had jumped the lights.

“He was hit at a fair rate, I would say between 50 and 60 mph. I did the basic first aid, checked he was still breathing and I could see he was. He was bleeding and I could see he had a few broken bones.”

The injured victim was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Police are now appealing for information as they continue to trace the car and its driver.

The vehicle is thought to be a black or dark-coloured 2018 Seat Ibiza. It is likely to have damage to its front driver’s side wing, headlight and bumper.

The driver-side wing mirror came off during the collision.

Sergeant Kenneth Canavan, of Greater Glasgow Road Policing Unit, said: “Nitshill Road at Darnley Mains Road is a busy junction for both traffic and pedestrians. I would appeal to anyone who saw the crash happen, or has dashcam footage, to come forward.”
