Stolen car overturns near Clyde Tunnel as cops seek driver

-

A CAR which was left on its roof in an early-morning crash near the Clyde Tunnel was stolen just moments before as police work to trace the driver.

Pictures of the smash first emerged on social media in the early hours of yesterday morning, showing an overturned vehicle near the Expressway, with Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service in attendance.

The incident was believed to have taken place at around 3am with emergency services still at the scene after 5am.

A removal truck was then pictured at the scene just before 6am, with workers on top of the car preparing to tow it away.

Now, Police Scotland has said the driver made off and enquiries are ongoing to trace the driver.

The force said it was alerted at around 3am to a report of a Range Rover stolen from outside a house in Crow Road.

A short time later, a report was received regarding a road crash involving the same vehicle at the southbound Clyde Tunnel.

Anyone with any information that may assist the police investigation should contact Helen Street Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 0322 as of December 3.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We attended the incident on the advice of Police Scotland at 3.10am on Monday morning.”
