Govan set for £750k facelift ahead of new Clyde crossing
WORK has begun on a £750,000 improvement project in Govan which will ultimately link with a new Clyde bridge from Govan to Partick.
The regeneration and refinement projects will focus on the entrance to the historic A-listed Govan Old Parish Church and opposite the Pearce Institute and Govan War Memorial in project backers say will make the area a more attractive place.
Other areas set for a facelift include Pearce Lane, Burleigh Street and Langlands Road connecting to Langlands Path.
The work will be funded by the Glasgow City Region City Deal and Govan Cross Townscape Heritage Initiative.
Council chiefs hope the work will tie in with a proposed active travel network between Byres Road and the University of Glasgow over to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
They also say traders will only benefit from the new bridge if Govan as a location benefits from improvements.
The new links underline Govan’s place at the centre of the proposed Waterfront and

The work is expected to be completed in May 2019.
Councillor Susan Aitken, leader of Glasgow City Council, said: “Communities across Glasgow, not least Govan, stand on the cusp of significant transformation thanks to City Deal investment.
“This public realm investment does a number of things; it protects the heritage of a historic area, improves the very fabric of the heart of Govan and puts in place the building blocks so it is ready to thrive from plans to make Govan a more desirable location for innovate and creative businesses and workers, not least the new bridge to Partick.
“In short, it makes Govan a more attractive place for its residents and those doing business there.”
