SPIRIT. Togetherne­ss. Resilience. Character. Mentality. Rangers have shown that they have all those things this season and the win over Hearts on Sunday summed up the traits that Steven Gerrard has instilled in this squad. To come from behind and be ahead at Tynecastle says a lot about them. And then to finish the job after going down to ten men tells you even more.

People can panic when you lose a man but that is one of the main difference­s between Rangers this season and last season. They can manage the game and, in adversity, they can see it through. All season, and with the way Scotland is at times, it has been a case of don’t believe the hype when it comes to Steven and Rangers.

But the supporters are right to have a bit of belief in the team right now and you can’t blame them for enjoying themselves every time they go to a game.

Psychologi­cally, for Rangers fans, management and players and everyone involved with the club, to see your name at the top of the league again is huge.

There is a small sense of accomplish­ment because they have waited such a long time to get there but they know that nothing is won and the job is far from done. Nobody will be getting ahead of themselves.

But the players will take a lot of confidence from it and it shows how far they have come in a short space of time since Steven came into the club.

If they could get through the next six Premiershi­p fixtures and then be ahead of Celtic or within touching distance after the Old Firm game that would be a superb first half of the season. Then, you have to fancy your chances. If they could be in that position, and through to the knockout rounds of the Europa League, then that would be a
