- BY NIALL CHRISTIE

THOUSANDS of Santas are set to take over the City Centre once again this weekend for the annual Santa Dash.

Once again, runners of the will be raising much-needed funds for Beatson Cancer Charity.

Around 8,000 Santas took part in last year’s race with this year’s aiming to be even bigger.

Since launching 12 years ago more than £250,000 raised in total.

While the majority of racers taking part will be fundraising for the Beatson, other charities will also be represented on Sunday.

Organised by Glasgow Loves Christmas group, the 5km route winds in and around the city, travelling towards the west from George Square, travelling through the centre before returning to the square to finish.

Registration for the event has already closed, with signups proving popular again with people from across Scotland.

After signing up, participants will be able to collect Santa suits from the St Enoch Centre prior to the race, before taking part in this fun visual spectacle.

From 5am in the morning on the day of the race a number of roads will be restricted with parking and loading restrictions, as well as prohibition of driving.

The Clydeside Expressway will be closed in both directions around Finnieston Street, while Argyle Street will also be shut off at two sections within the city centre.

The Broomielaw will not be available to drivers for a period on Sunday in both directions around Anderston Quay, which is also closed, because of passing racers.

Renfield Street, Queen Street, West Nile Street and others will also be affected.

Some roads will open before 4pm when the runners have passed, while others will remain closed for the full 11 hours.
