Former Indian restaurant to make way for seven-storey flat
A FORMER Indian restaurant which has fallen into disrepair could be demolished to make way for two flat blocks.
Kelvin Properties are seeking permission from Glasgow City Council’s planning committee to build a seven-storey block of flats and four-storey block beside them on Kent Road, near the Mitchell Library – formerly the Heera buffet restaurant.
But members of the planning committee are not convinced four residential parking spaces on Cleveland Lane would be enough for the number of tenants.
The issue was discussed on Tuesday, December 4.
Ken Clark, of development and regeneration services, said: “This building was previously used as an Indian restaurant and a place of worship before that. It is now in a state of disrepair. There would be 20 residential units in total. There was previously access to an underground car park.
“The site is within walking distance of the town centre, train stations and the underground.”
Councillor Michael Cullen said: “I am concerned about the lack of parking spaces that would be available. There is a controlled parking zone in the nearby streets.”
Councillor Glenn Elder, chairman, proposed to grant the application, but an amendment stipulating additional parking provisions won in a vote.
