Knife-point robber got in woman’s car

A BRAVE pensioner flagged down workmen for help after a robber armed with a knife got in her car.

The 82-year-old woman was targeted at around 8.40am on Thursday as she left her home in Athelstane Road, Knightswood. to attend an appointment.

She got into her red Peugeot car and a man, who was unknown to the woman, opened the passenger door and sat beside her.

He brandished a knife and demanded money.

The victim then drove her car under duress and turned left onto Hermitage Avenue to slow down next to a group of workmen.

She rolled down her window to raise the alarm and the suspect got out of the car and ran into gardens and onto Anniesland Road.

The woman drove to her appointment where she disclosed what happened and police were called.

The suspect is described as between 35 and 45 years old, 5ft 7 inches, of medium build, with short dark hair and a local Glasgow accent.

He was wearing a beanie hat with a union jack design, a dark-coloured waterproof jacket and grey jogging bottoms. He was also wearing glasses.

Detective Constable Mark Milroy, from the Community Investigation Unit based at Govan, said: “This was a terrifying experience for the elderly woman and thankfully she was able to seek help quickly.

“Extensive enquiries are underway to trace the despicable individual involved and I would appeal to anyone who noticed a man matching the above description in Athelstane Road prior to the incident, or running along Anniesland Road afterwards, to please get in touch.”
