- BY GRAEME MURRAY

A CUSTOM- painted Reliant Robin set off from a Glasgow charity’s offices to raise cash for cancer sufferers.

David Glen, a board member for the Beatson Cancer Charity set off to Aberdeen in his custompainted three-wheeler, as part of his ‘road to retirement’ grand tour.

Called the ‘Beatson Banger’, it left from the Gartnavel campus for the Granite City in the final leg of a threestage DAGathalon.

Mr Glen, who has worked at accountancy firm PwC for 32 years added: “I wanted to do something that reflected my three decades at the firm and involve our three Scottish offices, thinking of threes led me to the idea of a triathlon.”

The first stage of the DAGathalon began on December 6 and involved a run of 13 miles.

The next day he cycled 50 miles between the Glasgow and Edinburgh PwC offices.

For the final stage he set off from Beatson Cancer Charity’s offices on the Gartnavel Hospital campus in Glasgow.

He will drive four-hours to the PwC office in newlypainted Reliant Robin

Mr Glen became involved with Beatson when his first wife underwent treatment at the centre.

She died despite the efforts of staff and he has since remarried.

He said: “My experience with Beatson provided firsthand knowledge of just how vital it is to ensure the charity has the funds to continue its work helping cancer patients get the help they need.

“So, while the DAGathlon is a bit of fun to celebrate my retirement, there is a serious cause behind it all and I’m really hoping we can raise a lot of money and that more people can be helped by Beatson Cancer Charity”

Graham Soutar, chief executive said: “We wish David all the best for the next chapter in his life and we look forward to his continued guidance and support as a Beatson Cancer Charity board member and trustee.”
