Probe launched after man hit with metal bar in murder bid

AN ATTEMPTED murder probe has been launched after man allegedly attacked another man with a metal bar in Govanhill.

The 52-year-old victim is in a stable condition in hospital following the assault on Dixon Avenue at around 9.10pm on Sunday.

Police said the victim was walking along Dixon Avenue with his partner when it is claimed he was approached by another man.

It is alleged that the man produced a metal bar and proceeded to attack the victim, before pushing the woman to the ground.

It is understood that there were a number of members of the public in the area at the time, and it is claimed the man was chased along the road by two people.

Emergency services attended and the victim was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Medical staff described his condition as stable.

A 52-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

He is due in court tomorrow.

Detective Sergeant Keith Runcie, from Cathcart CID, said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of Dixon Avenue and witnessed the incident to please get in touch.

“In particular I would like to speak to the two people who chased the man along the street as well as any motorists with dash-cams who were in the area and may have captured footage of significan­ce to the investigat­ion.
