Police step up probe into street shooting
POLICE are following a positive line of inquiry after a shooting in Balloch just days before Christmas.
The community was left reeling after a 30-year-old man was gunned down on Lynn Walk last Thursday evening.
It’s understood two men in a boxstyle white van were seen approaching the victim before shooting him.
Police believe the duo were wearing balaclavas at the time of the incident.
As the Evening Times went to press, the man was still in hospital recovering from the incident.
Medical staff described his condition as serious but stable.
Police have launched a major investigation into the attack, which is being treated as a targeted incident, and uniform patrols in the area have been stepped up.
Local MSP Jackie Baillie said: “This is clearly a shocking incident in what is a close-knit community.
“I would appeal for anyone with information to come forward to the police.”
As previously reported by the Evening Times, officers began their hunt for the hitmen by cordoning off most of the street which was described by locals as “quiet”.
Detective Chief Inspector Graham Cordner said: “If you were in Lynn Walk or the Balloch area between 6.30pm and 7pm and saw the two men acting suspiciously in the white van, it is imperative that you get in touch.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or alternatively Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
