STEVEN GERRARD has backed Kyle Lafferty to rediscover his scoring touch and grab the goals that his play deserves for Rangers once again.

The Northern Irishman has endured a difficult spell in the final third in recent weeks and he is without a strike in his last dozen outings for the Light Blues.

His introducti­on off the bench helped change the game in Rangers’ favour on Sunday as Gerrard’s side came back to beat St Johnstone.

And the Ibrox boss is pleased with Lafferty’s contributi­on as he looks to end his goal drought in the matches with Hibernian and Celtic before the winter break.

Gerrard said: “That’s the reason why we brought him in. When he first came in, in his first four to six weeks he looked like the real Kyle Lafferty, he was all over the place, pressing people, he was aggressive, holding it up.

“And he got us goals, whether that was from the beginning or coming on and contributi­ng from the bench. He had a bit of a dip, he had a few issues that he had to deal with and now he seems back and focused and ready to contribute again.

“I thought he was outstandin­g [on Sunday], he did everything but score. I thought he played really well, against Hamilton as well he was unlucky not to get one or two goals in that game.

“So as soon as he gets that first one we believe a few will come. I’m hoping it might be in the next two fixtures.

“He’s got my total support. I brought him in, I’ve got confidence and belief in him. I trust him.
