Three points remain the Gold standard

-

CONNOR GOLDSON is confident Rangers have what it takes to handle the demands from an expectant fanbase as Steven Gerrard’s side look to finish the year on a high note.

The Light Blues snatched all three points against St Johnstone on Sunday as Alfredo Morelos netted twice.

Now Gerrard and his players are preparing for two huge games against Hibernian and Celtic that could take them top going into the winter break.

And Goldson knows the Gers must keep their standards high to ensure they don’t fall foul of a vocal support once again this season.

He said: “The gaffer said before that we had two massive games coming up but that they’d give us the same points as we could get up there.

“So we respected them. In the first 15 minutes we got into good positions and had a few chances. By then we conceded the goal which made it hard for us.

“The winning goal changes the complexion of the whole week. Even if we only get the first and draw, the whole dynamic changes.

“There’s pressure from the outside and the fans aren’t happy as we’d have dropped two points away from home. But that late goal changes everything and everyone is happy.

“I think when you first come here you don’t realise that as soon as you drop any points it’s a disaster.

“At the same time I think the fans realise when you have played well and when you haven’t played well.

“On Sunday, midway through the game, you can hear them and you know you are not playing well.

“On Sunday, we found another gear and by the end of the game they were happy again.”
