Weekend of violence

- BY CATRIONA STEWART

SEVERAL men have been injured in a weekend of violence.

Officers were called to an incident in the East End of the city where two young men were injured.

A second incident in Rutherglen saw further violence.

TWO young men were injured during a daylight disturbance outside a Dennistoun bar.

A 25-year-old man was stabbed while an 18-year-old suffered a head injury as a result of a brawl that broke out near the Duke Bar on Duke Street at around 3.20pm.

Both men were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where the 25-year-old was treated for stab wounds.

Medical staff last night described his condition as stable. The man who suffered a head injury was treated and later released.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “Police are following a positive line of enquiry.”

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old was rushed to hospital on Saturday evening after being injured during an altercation with another man in Rutherglen.

At around 5.45pm on Saturday, police were called to the incident on Glasgow Road.

Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment. Medical staff also describe his condition as stable.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “Around 5.45pm on Saturday, December 29 2018, police were called to Glasgow Road, Rutherglen, after a 21-yearold man was injured during an altercation with a man.

“Enquiries are continuing.”

In a further incident, an armed police raid on a house has been revealed to be a false alarm.

Neighbours watched with shock as three police vans with armed officers pulled up in Yarrow Crescent.

A residential property in the Bishopton street was targeted by eight officers who were seen entering the house.

But Police Scotland has now said the incident, on Wednesday, December 19, was a false alarm.
