Youth project wins praise for top festive programme

A CHARITY which helps disadvantaged young people learn vital lifeskills has been praised for its work over the festive period.

Staff at Drumchapel’s G15 Youth Project kept up their busy events schedule during the lead up to Christmas, such as it’s weekly youth club, sports events and game nights.

But, the group went “above and beyond” in its mission to keep young people throughout the area off the streets by offering the likes of Snow Ball grotto fundraiser and vists to the Sleeping Beauty pantomime to get its service users in the spirit.

One volunteer, who asked not to be named, told the Evening Times 2018 has been a “year to beat” for the group after a landslide of donations, including a a £5,000 boost from the Sir Arnold Clark Summer Camp Fund and a kind-hearted neighbour who drummed up an additional £5,000.

He said: “We’ve had a busy year but it’s been one of our best I’d say. The money we receive is really put to good use so we’re always incredibly grateful to anyone who thinks of us.

“The children in Drumchapel, like many deprived areas, can face a lot of challenges so it’s great to be able to provide them with a place to relax but, also to teach them about the importance of giving back to your community.”

“We’re really excited to see what 2019 has in store and we have some big plans so watch this space,” he added.
