Recovered Gogic like new signing for Accies manager

-

HAMILTON manager Martin Canning reckons the return of Alex Gogic after a long-term injury is like landing a new signing.

Accies ace Gogic made his top-team comeback following a 10-month lay-off as a second-half substitute in the 2-1 Lanarkshire derby defeat to Motherwell.

Gogic had been sidelined since February after suffering a cruciate ligament injury against Partick Thistle.

Canning has hailed the 24-year-old’s attitude and professionalism during his gruelling rehab and praised the club’s medical department for getting him back to full fitness.

And Canning claims Gogic, who can play in defence or as a holding midfielder, will boost his squad for the second half of the campaign as Hamilton look to pull clear relegation battle.

Canning said: “It’s like getting a new signing getting Alex back because we know what he’s capable of.

“He can do a job for us anywhere in defence and he is also a good sitting midfielder.

“We are getting a guy that knows the league, knows the club. It’s like getting a new signing. of a

“Alex has been training fully and doing the work that everyone else is doing.

“He did his cruciate and has been out for 10 months but he’s worked hard through his rehab.

“It’s been a long process and one that is maybe slightly easier to get your head round because you know it’s that length of time that you’ll be out for, so you have to get your head down.”
