Almost 200 homes to be built at old bus garage
HUNDREDS of new homes are to be built on the site of a former bus garage in Glasgow’s south side.
A total of 186 flats and houses will be erected for mid-market rent on the old Larkfield bus site in Govanhill.
Applicants Link Group Ltd and PL Larkfield SPV Ltd plan to develop the site into 24 one-bedroom flats, 128 two-bedroom flats, 30 three-bedroom houses and four two-bedroom cottage flats.
The project, which will stand on the derelict ground between Victoria Road and Butterbiggins Road, will host “informal” play areas for children and large area for amenity space.
A loop access road is to be created to provide an entry and exit point to the new estate on Butterbiggins Road at both the east and west end of the site.
MAST Architects, who designed the development, has also included 186 parking spaces and 152 cycle parking spaces, specifically for the flats.
However, the housing bid was only approved by Glasgow City Council late last month on the assurance developers follow conditions set out by the local authority.
The council said developers must ensure certain work is carried out in accordance with its guidelines, such as a vehicle access to the parking courts must be taken via a dropped kerb and the promise any trees or plants which die, are removed or become damaged within five years of the site being complete must be replaced.
The local authority said traffic management had been taken into consideration before granting the application but, as the Evening Times went to press, it had not responded to requests for comment on how the already congested junctions at Victoria Road and Cathcart Road were to be handled.
