Eckersley joins Forfar on loan as Smith nears the exit
ST MIRREN have confirmed that Adam Eckersley has left the club to join Forfar on a loan deal until the end of the season.
The 34-year-old fullback, who is out of contract in the summer, hasn’t played for the Buddies this season after recovering from a lengthy injury lay-off, and now joins the League One outfit as he searches for regular firstteam football.
Saints manager Oran Kearney told the official club website: “I think it’s been a frustrating time for Adam in relation to the events of the summer and then his operation and rehab to come back from that.
“I have a good relationship with Adam, I’ve always got on well with him and I’m pleased for him to be getting out and getting on with his football. It’s also with a scenario that suits him and he can move on with the rest of his life and do things he would like to do.
“All-in-all it’s an amicable ending for both parties.”
Meanwhile, St Mirren forward Cammy Smith looks set to complete a move back to former club Dundee United.
The 23-year-old former Aberdeen player previously spent time on loan at Tannadice back in 2016, and he looks set to seal a return to the Championship outfit as manager Robbie Neilson looks to bolster his squad for a promotion push in the second half of the season.
Smith helped St Mirren to the Championship title last season, scoring 17 goals in 84 appearances all-in for the Buddies since joining two years ago.
