Airport rail link

-

UPON seeing Friday’s article on the Glasgow Airport Rail Link, I am amazed the subject is still being talked about but not implemented, despite the many promises being made by our government.

When I heard about the rail link the first time in the late 2000s, I thought it was a brilliant idea to connect the city to the airport. Many other cities around the world do this, why not this one?

The project that was scrapped was very promising to us. If the original project were to be approved once again, there will be significant delays on the main Hillington line from Central to Gilmour Street. Many services would be greatly disrupted to and from Ayr, Gourock and Weymyss Bay and people will greatly complain about the already under-trouble Albellio ScotRail, when in reality they are not responsible for the maintenance of our railways.

A tram link to Gilmour Street station from the airport is also discussed.

Again, trying to implement a tram system to Glasgow from the airport would be pointless as it would not only be much more slower than the train but it would cause significant disruption within the city centre and the surrounding areas.

Furthermore, a bus service already connects the airport to Paisley and Glasgow, so people would see the added transport link as somewhat pointless. No construction project will be clear of obstacles but when the benefits afterwards are examined, the original airport rail link seems the best selection. We will have to wait and see how this comes around.
