‘Morgan loan could rescue Saints’ season’

-

TONY FITZPATRICK believes Lewis Morgan could transform St Mirren’s season if he were to return on loan.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers wants the winger to get game time elsewhere over the next few months, with Hibernian having expressed their interest in taking the 22 year-old to Easter Road.

Saints have also thrown their hat into the ring, and Fitzpatrick admitted it would be a “dream” if Morgan could be tempted to return to the club where he spent five years prior to moving to Celtic.

St Mirren’s chief executive said: “It would be a dream if Lewis was to come back to us. He knows what we think of him here, and what all the St Mirren fans think.

“He could be the one that makes a big difference to us. He’ll have so many options so we’re not kidding ourselves that we’ll definitely get him. It would be an unbelievable move for us if we could get him, and I think it would be great for Lewis, too.

“We’d be crazy not to ask the question as we’re an ambitious club so we’ll make that enquiry and see what happens.”

Fitzpatrick admitted has been “madness” trying to reshape the St Mirren squad this month, with around dozen players having moved on and around eight or nine expected to join.

He added: “This January has been madness - but a good type of madness! It’s similar to two years ago when we had 10 going out and 10 coming in. So far this month it’s been about a dozen out and we could end up with quite a few coming in as well.

“But in future windows we don’t want that as it’s not stable.” it
