Whisky festival heads for SWG3

-

IT is almost time to celebrate Scotland’s liquor of choice at the annual National Whisky Festival.

On Saturday, January 26, visitors will be able to choose from a global selection of more than 100 different whiskies from more than 30 exhibitors at the popular venue SWG3.

As it celebrates its third year, the boozy event promises “drams, dancing and music aplenty” and will feature two whisky tastings, live music organised by Celtic Connections, and Scottish dancing.

Tasting sessions, lasting three and a half hours, will give people the chance to discuss the many variations of the beverage with brands, blenders and experts.

Six masterclasses per session will also be made available to whisky fanatics who want to increase their knowledge of the spirit.

Both connoisseurs and novices alike are encouraged to join the ranks of whisky enthusiasts at the occasion, which also marks the 25th anniversary of the Celtic Connections festival.

Celtic Connections, which claims to be the world’s biggest winter festival, will be supplying the live ongoing music, encompassing a surprise line-up of guests whose identities are still shrouded in mystery.

The event hopes to accommodate a range of guests, not only whisky lovers. For those of different alcoholic persuasions, a newly-added craft beer bar should be sure to impress, along with the wide selection of gins, bourbons and other spirits.

Colin Campbell, a representative of The National Whisky Festival, said: “We want to celebrate whisky, it’s a beautiful drink – it’s many different drinks – so much can be done with it.

“Whisky is firmly part of Scottish culture. It inspires people to make all sorts of wonderful artwork, architecture, music, poetry. That’s why we bring these things to our show.

“At what other whisky festival can you take a break between drams to dance to the beat of world-renowned musicians?

“Whisky is not just the distillation of its constituent parts, but the distillation of the idea of what Scotland is, who its people are and who they aspire to be.”

Tickets cost £37 and can be found at https://www.seetickets. com/tour/ the-national-whisky-festival.
