Clark keen for one of her own in Glasgow
ZOEY Clark is seeking solo success at next month’s European Indoor Championships after surging to the British 400 metres title in Birmingham last weekend.
The Aberdonian, 24, will line up at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena in two weeks among the favourites with the pedigree of coming sixth at last spring’s world championships.
But with three major medals from the 4x400 relay in tow, Clark is chasing a reward all for herself at the Euros.
She said: “Having qualification out of the way means I can really focus and prepare. If it hadn’t been in Glasgow, I wouldn’t have done indoors at all this year but I did not want to miss that opportunity.
“I’ve had a really good winter and focused on getting quicker. That’s made me more comfortable. And now the goal is a 400m medal. It’s lovely to have world and European medals from relays but I’m going to be targeting an individual one.”
Meanwhile Andy Butchart has insisted he will be a contender for European gold despite only finishing third at the domestic trials.
The Dunblane ace, 27, is still a certain selection along side Chris O’Hare and Charlie Grice and he senses he has much more to come.
“The preparations haven’t been amazing,” he said. “But I prefer the Glasgow track to Birmingham.”
