Pollok House in plan to boost wedding trade after slump

-

THE management team at Pollok House have taken steps to increase the number of annual wedding parties which have “dropped significantly” over the years.

The total capacity for such major events will increase to 195 people with key areas of the house including the library, basement and dinning room included in the plans. Guests will also be able to take drinks into the garden for the first time.

The application was discussed on Friday by members of Glasgow City Council’s licensing board meeting.

The team at Pollok House was represented by Anderson Strathearn Solicitors on Friday morning at the licensing board.

Speaking on behalf of the applicant, Lucy Thornton said: “Pollok House is an 18th century building within Pollok Country Park.

“It is a popular visitor attraction particularly for wedding parties. But the number of weddings has declined in recent years and people have not been booking the venue because there is a capacity issue.

“The applicant wants to increase capacity in the dining room, library and the outside seating area which is currently cordoned off to the public.

“The garden has space for 100 people and this would allow guests inside to go out and have a drink while watching a fireworks display.

“It is not intended to increase the number of guests and the applicant would have to apply for a licence which would allow alcohol to be taken outside.

“The National Trust for Scotland is a highly regarded and respected organisation. They used to hold 40-45 weddings throughout the year.

“This has dropped significantly over the years but they hope to increase this with new licensing rules.”

Following a discussion the board agreed to grant the application.
