Archie the Highland Terrier gets first haircut with new owner

-

A HIGHLAND Terrier who was given up for adoption due to a skin condition which made his fur fall out has had his first haircut after finding a new owner in Glasgow

Little Archie, aged five, was a Dogs Trust resident when he was spotted by new owner Anne-Marie O’Rourke.

The Westie was suffering from a fungal skin and ear infection which caused him to lose much of his white coat when brought to Dogs Trust in October last year.

He was given up by his previous owners after they realised the extent of his infection and how much care he would need.

But he has now made a full recovery after dog lover Anne-Marie, 78, from Glasgow rehomed him in November after her previous Terrier died.

She said: “The Westie that I had died last June and I decided I wanted to get another dog.

“I saw a picture of Archie at the Dogs Trust and I knew I wanted to meet him. He looked like a poor old soul with hardly any hair.

“We clicked right away and I decided to take him home, he’s settled in fine.”

Fungal infections are not uncommon in dogs, causing itchiness, inflammation and hair loss.

Great-gran of one Anne-Marie said: “He is feisty and stubborn but very lovable, he likes getting his belly rubbed and having hugs.

“But I have to watch him around big dogs.

“I think within every small man there is a big man trying to come out and that’s definitely true of Archie. “
