Man who threw partner out of home given cab licence

-

A MAN who grabbed his partner by her t-shirt and threw her out of their home has been granted a private hire car driver’s licence.

Thomas Gallacher was also convicted for drink driving in Glasgow more than 10-years-ago. In October 2005 Gallacher was stopped by police on Rose Street and failed the breath test.

He was later fined £150 at court and disqualified from driving for one year.

In February 2007 he came home to his then partner intoxicated before grabbing her by the t-shirt and throwing her out the door.

The woman called the police who roadside discovered her face was swollen and bruised.

Gallacher was brought before Glasgow City Council’s licensing committee to explain his actions.

He said: “I haven’t had a relationship with alcohol for a long time. I just don’t drink. I have moved on with my life. I am a warehouse manager and I enjoy my job.”

Councillor Alex Wilson said: “That does surprise me. There is never any excuse for violence especially towards a female.”

Mr Wilson added: “It [the assault] will follow you around. How can you convince me that is someone starts on you or gives you grief you are not going to raise your hands to them.”

Mr Gallacher said: “I am in a similar working environment and manage 30 men a day.

“My patience has been tried and tested many times but I have never resorted to violence.”

Following the discussion members agreed to grant the licence and issues a severe warning.
