IT’S known for its scenic riverside walkways and student-friendly streets – and now, one of Glasgow’s most popular neighbourhoods has been named one of the coolest in the world.

Global media brand Time Out has curated an exclusive list of cool and exciting neighbourhoods based on their overall ‘buzz’, new venues, cost of living and the best cultural experience.

Glasgow’s historic Kelvinbridge was placed 37th in the top 50, being recognised alongside some of the world’s most beautiful locations including Tokyo, LA, Berlin and Bangkok.

From the idyllic footpath beneath the Kelvin Bridge to the towering glass panels of the Botanic Gardens, it is no wonder the area captured the eyes – and hearts – of people worldwide.

Food and drink also influenced the decision of many, with Time Out tipping their hats to riverfront craft beer bar Inn Deep and traditional boozer The Doublet.

More than 27,000 people across the world marked Kelvinbridge worthy of the list, ranking it above lesserknown neighbourhoods in stunning world Miami, Istanbul, Hong Kong and Prague.

Other neighbourhoods on the exclusive list include Arroios in Lisbon, which managed to grab the top spot, as well as Shimokitazawa in Tokyo, Historic Filipinotown in Los Angeles and Astoria in New York.

A spokeswoman for Glasgow City Council said: “The world’s top travel guides and websites have been heaping praise on Glasgow as a culturally-rich destination with an unrivalled visitor experience for some time now.

“The diversity of our neighbourhoods is increasingly appealing to international visitors who are looking for authentic travel experiences and want to live like a local.”

James Manning, Global Projects Editor of Time Out, said: “With its vintage and design shops, strong café scene, restaurants and bars, green spaces and culture spots, Kelvinbridge was the ideal Glasgow neighbourhood to feature on this global list.

“At Time Out we’re always searching for the best of the city, and Kelvinbridge fits that bill perfectly.”
