SHOCK AS OAP KILLED ON ROAD

A COMMUNITY is in mourning following the death of a much-loved pensioner who died after she was struck by a car.

Iris McLeod, of Walter Street, Dennistoun, was hit by a red Vauxhall Corsa as she crossed Duke Street, near to Gateside Street, at about 12.35am yesterday.

Police said the accident happened outside the wellknown Bristol Bar in Duke Street.

It is understood the 67-yearold was well-known in the area, where she often walked her dog.

Councillor Allan Casey led the tributes. He said: “Such sad news, thoughts go out to Mrs McLeod’s family at this difficult time.”

One local resident posted: “I am so, so sad. She was a gem of a woman.”

Another expressed his shock saying: “We used to walk our dogs with her husband in the park, gutted.”

Police appealed for witnesses to come forward following the incident.

It is not known whether Mrs McLeod died at the scene or was taken to hospital.

She is survived by her husband and three sisters.

One relative posted online: “Thanks for all your comments and condolence­s to the family of Iris McLeod.

“Funeral arrangemen­ts will be organised from tomorrow by her husband and three sisters. Location and times will follow for her many friends , and acquaintan­ces. RIP Auntie Iris.”

Constable Andrew Conroy, of Road Policing West, who is appealing for witnesses, said: “We know there were quite a few people about at the time.

“I am appealing to anyone who saw the incident, or indeed any driver who may have dash cam footage from the area around that time, to call police.

“Any informatio­n can be passed to officers at Road Policing West via 101 quoting reference number 0206.”
