BLIND MAN IN SUBWAY TRACK PLUNGE

A MAN was in a life-threatenin­g condition in hospital last night after falling onto the tracks at a Subway station.

The 32-year-old was hauled off the platform by his guide dog.

A BLIND man is said to be fighting for his life after reportedly being pulled onto the tracks of a Glasgow Subway station.

Earlier today the city’s undergroun­d system went into lockdown after a man was pulled onto a platform covered in blood at Bridge Street station.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, with ambulance services confirming that a man was taken to hospital.

Those on the site said the man seemed to be ‘missing half an ear’, while others said his guide dog had pulled him onto the tracks.

Now, police officers on the scene have said it is understood the 32-year-old’s injuries are believed to be life-threatenin­g.

A British Transport Police spokespers­on said: “Officers were called at 12.53pm to Bridge Street station Glasgow following a report of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, and a man has been taken to hospital.

“At this stage his injuries are believed to be life-threatenin­g. Officers remain at the scene currently working to establish the circumstan­ces of how the man came to be on the tracks.”

Services across the city resumed almost four hours after the incident.

SPT bosses apologised for any inconvenie­nce caused.

Scottish Ambulance Service also confirmed their attendance, saying the man was taken with their trauma team to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Govan for treatment.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokespers­on added: “We received a call at 11.59am to attend an incident Glasgow’s Bridge Street Subway station.

“We sent an ambulance, a critical care advanced practition­er, the trauma team and the special operations response team to scene.

“One male patient was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital travelling with the trauma team.”
