SWG3 has been crowned as Glasgow’s Favourite Business at the 2019 Glasgow Business Awards, an event organised annually by Glasgow Chamber of Commerce.

The Evening Times-sponsored award is the only one voted for by the public, with six businesses across the city going head to head in the lead up to the awards.

This year, SWG3 claimed the title against strong competition from Loganair, Scottish Ballet, The SSE Hydro, Battlefield Rest and Eusebi Deli.

The multi-purpose venue provides an array of events across the creative industry from product launches and fashion shows, to food and drink events and gigs.

Last year’s winner of the Favourite Business award was Dear Green Coffee, a Glasgow-based coffee roaster specialising in grade coffee beans, with previous winners including Tam Shepherds Trick Shop, Glasgow Taxis and Barrhead Travel.

The 22nd Glasgow Business Awards took place in the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central, compered by Comedian Fred MacAulay, where a total of 16 awards were presented in front of 600 guests.

Sponsored by Royal Bank of Scotland and with our sister publication The Herald as media partner, each award celebrates the innovation, successes and spirit of homegrown businesses.

Vehicle engineering firm Allied Vehicles Group was crowned Most Outstanding Business, the most prestigious accolade of the night, in addition to Best Performing Large Business and Family Business of the Year.

Premiership Experience and Silver Cloud both claimed two wins for Entrepreneur of the Year and International Trade, and Best Performing Small-Medium Business and Family Business of the Year, respectively.

Recently retired Edrington chief executive Ian Curle received Glasgow Chamber’s Lifetime Achievement Award, commending his 15 years in the role which saw the company’s staff numbers expand from 900 to 3000.

The awards, which have a rich history, commenced in 1997 when they were held in the then Thistle Hotel, to an audience of around 250 people.

Since then, the awards have grown significantly to become the champion of major achievements and business success in the city, and the ‘must have’ for the business community.

Richard Muir, deputy chief executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, said: “The 22nd Glasgow Business Awards was a great success, with outstanding entries across each of the categories. A massive congratulations to each of the winners, particularly SWG3 on being chosen as the public’s number one business.”

Malcolm Buchanan, chair, Scotland Board, Royal Bank of Scotland, adde: “The Glasgow Business Awards consistently inspires and delights, and this year was no exception.”
