Murder probe after body find at flats:

- BY JAMES DELANEY AND JACK AITCHISON

A MURDER inquiry has been launched following the death of a man in Maryhill.

The body of Steven Clark, also known as Steven Robinson, was found in a flat on Carrbridge Drive on late Monday evening.

Officers circulated on an address at 9 Carrbridge Drive and on Tuesday confirmed they were treating the death as “suspicious”.

Later that day, a 19-yearold man was arrested in connection with the death.

However he has since been released from police custody pending further enquiries.

The flat was once again swarmed with detectives yesterday, with forensic teams searching drains, bins and bushes.

Officers arrived at the scene at around 11am, and a few hours later revealed they were treating the suspicious death as murder.

A post mortem examination is currently being carried out to establish the exact cause of Mr Clark’s death.

His relatives have been informed and a full report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

Officers are now appealing for anyone with information, including taxi or fast-food drivers who were in the area at the time, to come forward.

Detective chief inspector Stevie Wallace of the major investigation team said: “Extensive police inquiries are ongoing in Carrbridge Drive at this time.

“Officers are gathering CCTV footage from the surrounding area to provide more information that will help us trace the person or persons responsible.

“I would ask anyone who was in the Maryhill area of Glasgow between midnight, Sunday into Monday and 8pm on Monday night, and who may have seen or heard a disturbance, witnessed any strange activity or anyone acting out of character to please get in touch with us.

“I would also appeal directly to any taxi or fastfood delivery drivers who may have been working in the area that night.

“If you encountered anyone suspicious or had collections or drop offs there during this period please to report it to us.”

In the hours following his death, local residents gave the Evening Times an eyewitness account of the police operation.

One said:“There was loads of police late last night all rushing to the flats.

“I’ve heard rumours over what has happened. It’s obviously something big if they have shut all that off.”

Another resident said: “The police have been at the flats since the back of midnight.

“I live in the bottom floor and my door went.

“Two officers were just asking me questions and said that an incident had taken place. After that forensics were in and out the block throughout the night.”

Those with information can contact police on 101, quoting reference number 3011 of Monday, October 14 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
