Residents left in shock after ‘unexplaine­d’ death at flat

POLICE are investigat­ing the unexplaine­d death of a man in Scotstoun.

The 38-year-old was found seriously injured on Northland Drive yesterday morning.

Emergency services rushed him to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police Scotland provided no further details surroundin­g how the man received his injuries but confirmed they are treating his death is unexplaine­d.

Throughout the day officers, including forensic teams, could be seen in the area following the incident, which took place in the early hours.

Two uniformed officers could be seen standing guard inside the close to a block of flats at 26 Northland Drive.

The building backs on to the Scotstoun Stadium, home to Glasgow Warrior’s rugby team.

The local community have since expressed their shock following the death.

Councillor Eva Murray said: “My thoughts are with the gentleman’s family, friends and neighbours at this difficult time.

“This is very concerning news for our area and I know that many people in this close-knit community will have been left in a state of shock following today’s incident.

“A number of questions are still to be answered but I want to thank the emergency services for their efforts and I know they will continue to support and ensure the community is kept up to date throughout any investigat­ion.”

The Evening Times spoke to a number of residents who were asleep during the incident, but were surprised waking up to the scene.

One man who lives in the block said: “When I came down this morning and saw the police that was the first I knew of it.

“There was a bunch of forensics police in white suits investigat­ing the area down at the ground floor close.

“Seems like something pretty bad happened, I’m sorry to hear about the guy passing away.”

One woman in a nearby flat said: “It happened in the middle of the night so I had no idea what went on.

“I woke up and saw a police car outside the flat [26 Northland Drive] so clearly something serious had happened.”

After being informed of the news that a 38-year-old died, she added: “I can’t believe it. We had no idea. That’s shocking.

“I hope his family are OK.” A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We received a report of a 38-year-old man seriously injured on Northland Drive, Glasgow around 3.15 am on Wednesday.

“He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he died.

“A post mortem will be carried out. His death is currently being treated as unexplaine­d.”
