Hundreds expected at Love Rally to support people in care system

- BY NIALL CHRISTIE

CARE Experienced people from all over Scotland will be descending on Glasgow alongside leading politicians and supporters.

Hundreds of people with experience of the Scottish care system will participate in a rally on Saturday to campaign for the those growing up in care to be loved.

Young people will be bringing their own homemade placards and banners will be joined by supporters with their own banners and politicians.

One of those attending is campaigner Ryan McCuaig, who himself is care experienced.

Ryan spent more than two years being looked after by Glasgow City Council, growing up in Easterhouse.

He is now encouraging the public to attend, supporting the fight for the state to take a more caring approach to those being looked after.

Ryan added: “All of the information tells us there is no love in the care system. We want to see a system based on support and stable relationships.

“We hope to see as many people as possible from across Scotland backing our calls.”

The rally will kick off at 11:30am in Glasgow, from Glasgow Green.

The final stretch will see the rally marching on George Square and ending there, with speeches from a number of speakers – including organisers from Who Cares? Scotland.

Last year’s Love Rally was attended by hundreds of people who celebrated by gathering in the city centre. This year it is anticipated that the rally will be equally as busy.
