Family’s bauble plea as thanks to Beatson

-

A GLASGOW family is supporting the Beatson Bauble appeal to thank the care team who “removed the dark cloud” from their cancer experience.

Norrie Clucas was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2013, which later spread to his bones in 2015.

In 2017 his wife Catherine and daughters Pauline, Caroline and Karen were told the cancer was terminal.

Pauline said: “We never expected this would happen to our dad, I don’t think anybody ever does.

“Some may say we were unlucky, which we were, but we honestly felt so fortunate dad was getting such an outstanding level of care and support at the Beatson.”

Pauline said that despite his diagnosis, Norrie never gave up hope.

She said: “The staff and nurses at the Beatson truly removed the dark cloud and made things manageable.”

Mr Clucas spent a lot of time at Beatson Cancer Charity’s Wellbeing Centre, which is a relaxing space in the Beatson where patients can spend time away from a ward environment.

Pauline said: “We would often turn up at to find dad in the Wellbeing Centre being pampered. It was so nice to see dad, who was always so busy, getting his nails cut or his hair cut, while having a cup of tea. It was nice to spend time with him in a non-clinical space, it put us all at ease. “We would look out across Glasgow and he would show us where he played football as a child, while telling us stories about the buildings he could see.

“He would often shuffle us out 15 minutes early so he could get the best seat in the cinema room to watch the football.” To hang a Beatson Bauble, donate to the appeal or find out more, see www. beatsoncancercharity.org/ beatson-bauble-appeal or call 0141 212 0505.
