Knockout berth is there to be won for Gers

RANGERS have two chances to qualify for the Europa League knockout rounds over the next fortnight as they face Feyenoord and Young Boys.

Steven Gerrard will just be focusing on the first game in Holland this evening, though.

If results go Rangers’ way on Matchday 5, they will progress from Group G with a game to spare. If not, it will go down to the final 90 minutes of the section at Ibrox.

Rangers were worthy winners over Feyenoord earlier in the season but they will be a different proposition now that Dick Advocaat has replaced Jaap Stam as boss. And, let’s not forget, they still have a chance of qualifying too.

It is not as if this match doesn’t matter for Feyenoord and Dick will be thinking about resting players to focus on their upcoming league games in Holland.

They will be coming out all guns blazing and they know they need to beat Rangers on home soil. We will have a real fight on our hands.

A point may not ultimately be enough for Rangers to progress on the night but it would still be a terrific result for Steven and the players if they could earn a draw.

They will, of course, be going there to win and they will be confident they can do just that after the performances in the doubleheader with Porto.

This is going to be a very difficult game for Rangers but if they play the way they can then there is no reason why they can’t win it.

Rangers have done really well in the Europa League this season and it will take those high levels to get a result in this one. It is about concentration, doing the basics well defensively and taking your chances at the other end.

Do that, and a place in the next round is up for grabs tonight.
